Local Middle School Girls Chosen for STEM Camp at Sonoma State
7th grade girls from Cloverdale, Healdsburg, Windsor public schools, chosen for AAUW's Tech Trek this summer met Tech Trek alumunae.

What could be better than 7th grade girls upping their skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) concepts? How about their doing so at a week-long STEM camp at Sonoma State University this summer? Add to that their meeting with 8th and 12th grade STEM camp alumnae. Then top it off with the American Association of University Women (AAUW) who sponsors all this and you’ve got AAUW’s Tech Trek and AAUW Healdsburg branch’s TTAG (Tech Trek Alumnae Group).
Tech Trek, developed by AAUW California in 1998 makes STEM fields exciting and accessible to girls in middle school – just at the age when girls’ participation in these fields tends to drop. Alumni campers report increased interest and confidence in STEM fields and careers goals and can stay in touch with one another through Healdsburg’s TTAG. A student-led Tech Trek alumnae group, TTAG members organize STEAM-related (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities while building a community of support and encouragement for these academically-motivated young women.
This summer AAUW Healdsburg is thrilled to be sponsoring 7 STEM-oriented girls from Healdsburg, Windsor and Cloverdale public middle schools as they stay for one week in Sonoma State campus dorms, bond with one another and engage in exciting STEM workshops and field trips. In preparation for their immersive camp adventure, Tech Trek girls gathered with TTAG members this week at a Meet & Greet to ask questions and discuss details about the upcoming camp experience, as well as begin building bonds with other like-minded girls with whom they can find support and camaraderie throughout high school.
