Here are the top three stories today in Healdsburg:
- Sen. Toni Atkins, the current president pro tem of the California Senate, has announced that Sen. Mike McGuire of Healdsburg will succeed her in the role next year. Atkins, who was the first woman to hold this position and also served as Assembly speaker, praised McGuire as a trusted confidant and skilled leader, confident in his ability to continue guiding the Senate and the state. McGuire, a Democrat who has been in the Senate since 2014 and served as majority leader since 2022, received bipartisan congratulations for his upcoming role and willingness to collaborate. - Participants of the Tough Mudder obstacle course at nearby Sonoma Raceway on Aug. 19 and Aug. 20 have been affected by a bacterial infection, possibly Aeromonas, causing symptoms like rashes, boils, fevers, muscle pain, and other health issues. Sonoma County health officials are investigating the situation as over 100 inquiries have been received, and positive cultures of affected individuals are showing Aeromonas presence, although other organisms might also be causing rashes. The exposure to mud and muddy water during the event is suspected to be the source of the infection and health advisories have been issued to address the situation. (KSBW)
- A Blood Drive is taking place today, Aug. 30, from 1:30-5:15 p.m. at the Healdsburg Community Center's Multipurpose Room. To participate, appointments can be made at donors.vitalant.org using the code "Healdsburg," or by calling (877) 258-4825.
