Death Investigation Concludes On Matheson Street In Healdsburg

Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive male who is believed to have assaulted employees of a business, police said.

HEALDSBURG, CA — A death investigation kept Matheson Street in Healdsburg closed for much of Monday.

A Nixle was sent out around 11 a.m. about the police activity in the 1-20 block of Matheson Street. City officials said there was no immediate threat to the public but to avoid the area until further notice.

Around 4 p.m., city officials issued another alert stating Matheson Street was reopened to the public.

According to a news release from the Healdsburg Police Department, a call came in at 10:21 a.m. Monday about an unresponsive person in the 20 block of Matheson Street.

Officers responded and found a male in the parking lot of 14 Matheson Street. He was pronounced dead by medical personnel. His identity will be made through the Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner's Office, police said.

Prior to the report of the unresponsive person, the Healdsburg Police Department received reports of a male subject who assaulted employees of a downtown business, police said. The same person was also reported to have threatened another person with a hammer. Based on the descriptions provided, investigators believe the deceased person was involved in these incidents.

Investigators learned the deceased person was in an altercation with several subjects prior to being found unresponsive.

So far, these people have been cooperative with investigators, police said.

The cause of death will not be determined until after an autopsy is performed later this week, police said. In the meantime, police asked anyone with information pertinent to the incident to call Healdsburg PD dispatchers at 707-431-3377 and reference case number 23-874.
