Police Chase Teens At 110mph Before Fiery Crash In Healdsburg

HEALDSBURG - Two teen girls were injured early Thursday morning when their 2015 Honda sedan crashed, overturned and caught fire in the back yard of a residence while they fled Healdsburg police, a police sergeant said.

Police rescued the 17-year-old driver from Santa Rosa and her 18-year-old passenger from Healdsburg, Sgt. Nick Castaneda said.

Patrol officers saw the Honda with its lights off at the edge of Healdsburg Avenue near Passalacqua Road around 12:30 a.m. The car sped north when the officers tried to stop the vehicle and its occupants, Castaneda said.

Police pursued the Honda until it reached speeds over 110 mph on Healdsburg Avenue but they pulled back because they were aware of a 90-degree turn ahead at Lytton Station Road, Castaneda said.

Officers lost sight of the Honda when it reached the turn and got out of their patrol cars and walked into a field, Castaneda said.

They found the overturned Honda on fire in the backyard of a residence in the 100 block of Lytton Station Road, Castaneda said. The Honda had crashed through a stone retaining wall, became airborne and continued traveling another 130 feet before it hit a wood fence and landed on its roof, Castaneda said.

Officers smelled alcohol and marijuana inside the vehicle when they freed the two unresponsive teens, Castaneda said.

The teens were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and treated for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening, Castaneda said.

The juvenile driver is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, Castaneda said. She was released to her parents and faces felony charges of causing significant bodily injury to a passenger in her vehicle while evading police and DUI, Castaneda said.
