SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Sonoma County Regional Parks announced it would be conducting low-intensity pile burns this week at Shiloh Ranch Regional Park in Windsor.

The pile burn started Tuesday and continues through Friday along the southern portion of the Big Leak Trail. The Parks District will keep the trail open to the public during burn operations.

"People in the area may see or smell smoke during the burn, and visitors are reminded not to approach the burn piles at any time," the Parks District said in a news release.

This week's pile burn is a continuation of fuels reduction work conducted by Parks' staff and the California Conservation Corps that thinned vegetation along the park’s roads and trails. Thinning vegetation reduces surface and ladder fuels to help protect the remaining trees and adjacent communities from future wildfire severity, according to the Parks District.
