Public Safety Power Shutoffs Underway
PG&E has cut electricity to thousands of customers as a Red Flag Warning heralds high fire danger.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — PG&E has followed through on its warning to cut power to thousands of Northern Californians in an effort to prevent wildfires.
By 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, the company's outage map showed more than a dozen purple triangles where electric lines have been de-energized.

Some 12,000 customers were notified over the weekend that they were targeted for an intentional power shutoff.
Eight counties received warnings including Solano and Napa counties. Most impacted customers live in Shasta and Tehama counties.
PG&E will operate six community centers in the impacted counties where customers can pick up ice.
PG&E calls a Public Safety Power Shutoff when weather conditions suggest wildfires could be imminent and pose a danger to life or property. Weather forecasts and patterns that could cause a Public Safety Power Shutoff include humidity below 30 percent, high temperatures and winds above 19 miles per hour or with gusts of 30-40 miles per hour.
The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning which means that dry and windy conditions are expected, leading to extreme fire weather risks.
The weather service also issued an Excessive Heat Warning for 11 a.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Sunday for the Marin Coastal Range, Sonoma Coastal Range, North Bay Interior Mountains, North Bay Interior Valleys, East Bay Interior Valleys, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley, Eastern Santa Clara Hills, East Bay Hills, Southern Salinas Valley, and Interior Monterey.
