🌱 Remembering 'Remarkable' Local Women + Police Logs + Weekend Events
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening this weekend in Healdsburg.

Hey, everybody — Simone here. Right off the bat, I want to deeply apologize for a very embarrassing mistake I made yesterday, when I accidentally sent out a week-old Healdsburg Patch newsletter instead of the fresh one I had just written.
I did send out the correct newsletter around 20 minutes later as an alert, but in case you didn't get it, you can read it here. It includes news on Healdsburg Lumber moving to a larger location, the St. Patrick's Day festivities today in town, fallout from the recent storm, weather predictions for the next couple of weeks, and more.
But now, moving into the present moment! Here's what you'll find in today's weekend edition of the Healdsburg Patch newsletter:
Find out what's happening in Healdsburgfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
- The past month's worth of (very lively) Healdsburg police logs
- Obituaries for three notable local women who died recently

Air over Healdsburg:

Here are the top 3 stories today in Healdsburg:
- Now that the Healdsburg Tribune is publishing police logs again, let's review some notable moments from the past month's worth of logs, shall we? Among the calls and reports to police since early February: A woman who claimed "her son was being harassed and threatened by older children at St. John’s School, including sending the boy a photo of them waiting for him after school to harm him"; an "unwanted guest" reported at St. John's Church, who had allegedly been "frightening people at mass" and "urinating in potted plants" outside the church; an e-bike theft; a wheelbarrow theft; a big cough medicine heist reported at Rite Aid; employees at various local businesses who called the cops on apparently homeless people sleeping or loitering outside their shops; a double arrest of two guys at Wicked Slush, one for a "weapons offense" and one for "destroying plant material growing upon state or county highway rights-of-way"; a "disgruntled" Spoonbar employee "who may have been on drugs" arrested after an "altercation with a manager"; a Kaiser hospital patient who claimed he had gotten "head-butted" at Duke's Spirited Cocktails; and much, much more. (Healdsburg Tribune & Healdsburg Police Department)
- Local nun and teacher Mary Madden, who used to work at St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Healdsburg, passed away a couple months ago at age 84. Maeve O'Sullivan, a first-grade teacher at St. John School, describes her former colleague as a "remarkable woman" who was "a very well known friend of many Healdsburg residents." She adds: "Mary was a retired nun / teacher from St. John School and was very popular within the community. A native of Co. Cork, Ireland, Mary was witty, smart, giving and thoughtful. She lived a life of service to all. Mary was a bright light in every room and entertained us all with her funny stories." And here are some more details from Mary's official obituary: "She was born in Co. Cork, Ireland in 1938. She came to the U.S. in 1962 as a teaching nun in the Infant Jesus Order. She spent her life serving others, first as a nun and later as a devoted teacher for over 30 years. She continued caring for others in many ministries in St. John's Parish, always with kindness and often with a touch of Irish wit." (Inbox & Legacy.com)
- Two other well-known Healdsburg women passed away recently as well: Catherine Irene Curtis, who was in her late 90s, and Germaine "Geri" Louise Amato, who was in her mid 80s. Catherine was born and raised in Healdsburg, and continued to live here for most of her life, working as a real estate agent here in town. As a kid, "Catherine remembered having great fun going to the river and boating, and driving around town in her friend's pony cart," her obituary says. And after marrying, she and her husband Ken reportedly "developed one of the first Kiwi orchards in the area, in the Dry Creek Valley, not far from where she spent so much of her childhood on the family's ranch." When her husband died, she moved to town, her obit says — "where she continued to tend a beautiful garden" and "volunteered at the Healdsburg Museum, through which she met her long-time companion, Robert Rawlings." As for Geri Armato: After raising four kids and running a Silicon Valley tech company with her husband Mel for 20 years, the couple reportedly moved to Healdsburg for their "golden years." More from her obit: "Geri was a strong supporter of both the secular and spiritual communities of this small town. Geri assisted Mel for many years in support of the Healdsburg Museum's many charitable events. She strongly supported and volunteered at the local food bank and Healdsburg's Senior Center. Further, Geri (and Mel) gave their unwavering support to St. John the Baptist Church and School. Baking was one of Geri's many talents and passions and for many years, she would donate her time and energy to 'feed' first responders and various organizations in the area with her amazing baked goods creations."
