SMART Windsor Extension Closer To Completion

SMART notified the public that the rail grinding, which produces noise and visible sparks, was rescheduled for Saturday in Windsor.

WINDSOR, CA — Construction of the Windsor SMART train station is coming along, although weather impacts did push out some of the work scheduled for earlier this week, the Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit agency said Thursday.

Grinding work to smooth out the surface of the railroad tracks north of Airport Boulevard was originally scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but was extended through Saturday due to weather impacts.

SMART notified the public that the rail grinding, which produces noise and visible sparks, will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15.

"Traffic control measures will be implemented on city streets near the railway; please adhere to posted signs and follow the directions of flaggers in the area," SMART officials said. "We apologize for any inconvenience, and appreciate your patience as we make progress."

Construction of the SMART extension to Windsor began in January 2024 and is expected to be completed by this spring. The station is situated west of U.S. Highway 101 at 461 Emily Rose Circle—off Windsor Road just north of Windsor River Road. Sign up to receive periodic updates on the station.
