Temporary Santa Rosa Fire Station Coming To Fountaingrove

Two Fountaingrove fire stations burned in the October 2017 Tubbs Fire.

SANTA ROSA, CA — The fire-ravaged area of Fountaingrove in Santa Rosa will soon have a fire station again.
Construction will begin in mid-July on a temporary fire station that replaces one of two that burned in the Fountaingrove area of the city during the October Tubbs fire. It is expected to be completed by autumn.

Fire Station 5 on Newgate Court and the former Fire Station 5 at 3480 Parker Hill Road were destroyed in the fire. The city selected the former Parker Hill Road site for a temporary fire station until a permanent station is built in Fountaingrove.

Santa Rosa accepted an offer on Feb. 6 from the Menlo Park Fire Protection District to lease its modular firehouse and apparatus tent for $1 a year while a permanent Fire Station Five is built.

Site improvements, including construction of disability access and repair of fire damaged utility connections, must be completed before the temporary fire station begins operations.

The temporary station will be staffed 24/7 by three firefighters and a fire engine, and it will allow crews to meet their response goal of arriving to a priority incident within five minutes 90 percent of the time, city officials said. Santa Rosa currently has 10 fire stations in operation.

On Tuesday, the City Council awarded a $574,000 contract to Oak Grove Construction Co. for the construction of the temporary Fire Station Five on Parker Hill Road that includes relocation of the Menlo Park Fire Protection District's modular fire station and tent.

The total project cost of $1 million also includes design, management, inspection, tools, fencing, a 15-percent contingency fee, equipment and furnishings.
