Here are the top 3 stories in Healdsburg today:
- It would appear that a combination ice cream shop and burger joint will soon be moving into the empty storefront at 109 Plaza St., next to Bon Ton Baby where Bistro Ralph used to be. The lady who runs the "Shop Local Healdsburg" blog and Instagram account posted a video of some intriguing signage posted out front. According to the signs, the new eateries are called Iggy's Organic Burger and Angela's Organic Ice Cream, and their logos are a dog and a cupid, respectively. "Something salty (and organic)... something sweet (and organic)... coming soon," say two other posters on the front windows. Angela's is already an established Sonoma County ice cream shop with locations in Petaluma and Forestville; however, after much scouring, I haven't been able to find any info about an Iggy's Burger anywhere online. "Can a burger 🍔 and🍦shop co-exist under one roof?!" asks Shop Local, adding: "We are udderly excited, Healdsburg! Our reliable insider source says the ice-cream shop will open first then the burgers!" (Shop Local Healdsburg via Instagram & Angela's Ice Cream via Instagram)

(Image courtesy of Shop Local Healdsburg) - The lineup just dropped for the upcoming season of the Tuesdays in the Plaza summer concert series in town — and it looks pretty lit. The concerts start in two weeks on May 30, and run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Tuesday through August 29. (Except July 4, because that'll be the big Independence Day celebration on the plaza!) The lineup includes two old-school party bands playing '80s and '90s jams, Neon Velvet and Club 90; "vintage jazz and swing" band Cosmo Alleycats; "original roots country" group Laura Benitez & the Heartache; multiple jazz bands, including Carlitos Medrano & Sabor De Mi Cuba, the John Santos Sextet and DGIIN; "California Americana soul" band Wreckless Strangers; modern blues musician Eddie 9V; Americana rock bands Danny Click & The Hell Yeahs and Free Peoples; Latin fusion group Los Pinguos; and a "special guest artist" on the very last night. City officials also say you'll be able to grab dinner from the following vendors on the plaza during the event this year: Lola's Market, Rose's Burgers & Brats, Healdsburger, Nellie's Oysters and Tips Roadside. And you all know this already, but — arrive early or regret it! (City of Healdsburg & Healdsburg Community Services via Facebook)
- You may notice a familiar face on Food Network in the coming weeks. Local chef Lisa Lu, who's been working as the executive bakery chef for The Matheson for the past year, is competing on a new TV show called the "Summer Baking Championship." The show debuted last night at 9 p.m. on the Food Network channel. Lisa is competing against nine other chefs to impress three judges with summer-themed concoctions. "In addition to themes about summer memories, 4th of July and other classic treats, Summer Baking Championship will feature a Barbie Movie challenge," according to a press release. The winner will be crowned the show's "Summer Baking Champion" and will get a $25,000 prize. You can check out the episode schedule here. From my notebook:
- Tisza Bistro, the Eastern-European restaurant replacing our beloved old Singletree diner just south of the roundabout, should be opening by the end of August. This, according to a guy in a hard hat who was working inside the gutted-out space when I wandered past on Friday. Local chef Krisztian Karkus will reportedly be serving up his famous wiener schnitzel at the new bistro — and may even brew his own beer. (Tisza Bistro & Sonoma Magazine)

You can usually find Krisztian Karkus and Alena Rebik serving up Tisza Bistro fare at the farmers market. (Photo courtesy of the Healdsburg Farmers Market) - FYI — a guy arrested down in Cotati last week for allegedly stealing a car and leading cops on a high-speed chase was found with "multiple pieces of stolen mail from Geyserville and the Dry Creek area of Healdsburg," according to police. (Press Democrat; paywall)
- Local nostalgists, rejoice! The Healdsburg Museum's "Flashbacks" column — covering what happened in town around this date, in years past — is a regular feature again in the Healdsburg Tribune under its new ownership. Last week's flashbacks included May-time memories of a community dance by the river and a new rural monastery. (Healdsburg Tribune & Healdsburg Museum via Facebook)
- Speaking of the Russian River: If you're planning to seek refuge in her waters during this hot weather, county officials warn that the river is flowing much faster than you might be used to — and the water is super cold, around 60 degrees. So be careful out there. (Healdsburg Patch)
