A man who was killed in a crash off of northbound U.S. Highway 101 in Windsor on Wednesday afternoon has been identified by the Sonoma County coroner's office as 55-year-old Swannie Cookman.
Cookman, a Healdsburg resident, was killed in a crash at about 1:30 p.m. near the Central Windsor off-ramp from northbound Highway 101, according to the California Highway Patrol.
He was driving a Dodge pickup truck hit a concrete construction barrier on the right shoulder of the highway and went off the roadway, coming to rest in a field on the east side of the off-ramp, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.
Sloat said an investigation will determine whether the driver suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.
CHP officials initially incorrectly said that the victim who died was a woman.
