Windsor Man Dies When Crushed By Power Pole

BREAKING: The 25-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene Monday, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A Windsor man died Monday evening when he was crushed by a power pole in unincorporated Sonoma County near Geyserville, a Sonoma County sheriff's sergeant said. Thomas Joseph Klaus, 25, was helping his girlfriend's family remove a power pole from the lumber rack of a truck at a residence in the 14700 block of Youngs Road around 6:15 p.m., Sgt. Spencer Crum said.

One end of the pole was touching the ground, and when Klaus and his girlfriend's family members were lifting the other end of the pole off the truck, Klaus slipped and the pole landed on his head, Crum said.

A Cal Fire crew in the area came to Klaus' aid but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Crum said.
