Windsor Democratic Club To Get Fracking Facts from Environmental Scientist

On Thursday, September 26, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the Windsor Round Table Pizza, 8499 Old Redwood Hwy, Windsor, Ca, the Windsor Democratic Club will have a program on hydraulic fracturing and acidizing with guest speaker, Briana Mordick, a staff scientist with the Natural Resources Defense Council. Ms. Mordick will give an overview of the mechanics of fracking and acidization and how they are being used today in tight oil deposits in the US and particularly in one of the largest of these deposits, the Monterey Formation here in California.

Before coming to the Natural Resources Defense Council Ms Mordick received a Masters in Geology from the University of North Carolina and later worked as a petroleum geologist in the oil and gas industry for almost six years. She will discuss the protections needed to reduce the environmental and public health risks associated with well stimulation. Senate Bill 4, which is now moving through our California legislation, provides protection from some of these negative impacts and will be explained.
