Woman and 2 Children Hospitalized After Crash Near Healdsburg (UPDATED)

The accident was reported around 8 a.m. Friday.

A woman and two young children were injured Friday morning when their car went off West Dry Creek Road in Sonoma County near Healdsburg.

Malia Gomez, 37, of Healdsburg, was driving a Honda Civic at 50 mph south on West Dry Creek Road near Pine Ridge Road in unincorporated Sonoma County around 8 a.m., CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

Gomez told the CHP she looked away from the road for a second and when she looked up she was in the oncoming lane, Sloat said.

Gomez swerved back into the southbound lane, lost control and ran off the road and down an embankment, Sloat said.

Gomez suffered facial and head lacerations. Her son and her boyfriend's son, both 5 years old, suffered moderate injuries including head and facial lacerations, Sloat said.

All three occupants were trapped in the Honda. Emergency crews from Cal Fire and the Healdsburg Fire Department extricated them and they were taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Sloat said.

PREVIOUSLY:

A 37-year-old woman and two 5-year-old children were injured when their vehicle went off a road and down an embankment west of Healdsburg Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported around 8 a.m. on West Dry Creek Road.

The roof of the vehicle was removed to free the three occupants, who were then taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, CHP Officer Kerri Post said.

One of the children sitting in the back seat suffered a leg injury, Post said. The CHP described the incident as a major-injury crash.

The car was traveling too fast around a curve on West Dry Creek Road in unincorporated Sonoma County, Post said. The tires on the right side of the vehicle hit dirt and the driver overcorrected, Post said.

The vehicle went off the road, hit a tree and went down an embankment, Post said.
