City Council Wants to Put 'Community' Back in Hermosa Beach's Community Theater

The council said it does not want to do away with the current users, but wanted to balance it out with a more diverse selection.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — In a joint session with the Parks and Recreation Commission, the Hermosa Beach City Council concluded that the Hermosa Beach's Community Theater was not best serving the community needs, the Daily Breeze reported.

The 500-seat theater, located in the middle of town, was occupied 177 days this year, the vast majority of it was for children musical rehearsals and performances, the Breeze reported. The council said it does not want to do away with the current users, but wanted to balance it out with a more diverse selection.

To achieve their goals, the theater needed to some capital improvements.

“Currently there is a variety of capital improvements and equipment purchases that would enhance the facility’s popularity for a more professional and lucrative clientele,” Community Resources Manager Kelly Orta wrote in her staff report.
