Great Teachers in the Community
This Teacher Appreciation Week, we asked you to send us nominations of teachers you thought stood out—and here they are.

Some teachers at offer extra tutoring sessions to their students who need help. Some instructors at bring their own supplies or treats to the classroom to put a smile on their students' faces.
Since 1984, the national Parent Teacher Association has designated the first week in May as Teacher Appreciation Week, which is a time for communities across the country to honor these teachers who go the extra mile for our children.
Now as comes to a close, here are educators in the community nominated by Patch readers for truly making a difference in Hermosa Beach's public schools.

All year long, [Lange] has brought out the best in my son, as well as the entire class. Instead of taking the easy way out and teaching her students one way, she has really taught each student using his or her strengths. She offers extra help when a student is struggling. For example, this week when our class began long division and many of the kids were just not getting it, she offered extra sessions with smaller groups before and after school. In today's culture of "teachers and teacher's unions are evil" ( a la the Waiting for Superman film) it is so nice to see a teacher take extra care with our young people. I am so very happy my son has Ms. Lange for 3rd grade! — Maggie Curtis
Statement from Hermosa View School principal
Hermosa View School Principal Sylvia Gluck told Patch that her entire staff deserves recognition this year:
In regards to Teacher Appreciation Week I would like to state that I have a dynamic staff at View School. It is because of their collective efforts and dedication to their job that all students are well prepared for the next grade level each year. My teachers are dedicated to their students and the programs that are integrated into the curriculum. As a site administrator I could not ask for more, for those reasons, I cannot single one person out. Hats off to all of my teachers. They are appreciated each day. — Sylvia Gluck
