Hermosa Favorites: The Best Date

This is the first installment of the "Hermosa Favorites" series. Each week residents tell us where their favorite places are in town and we compile the answers.

When trying to impress that special someone, or when attempting to rekindle an old flame, Hermosans suggest to look no further than the beach.

Watching the sun set over the ocean and enjoying a night out at Mermaid bar are the best options for a date, according to locals.

"Mermaid is always a hoot for a date," said Hermosa resident Melinda Curtis in response to Patch on Facebook. "Nothing like that place anywhere and they have a romantic fire going in the winter."

Mermaid, which has been a part of Hermosa Beach for nearly 60 years, has a warm interior with dark wood walls covered in old photos of the city. Married couples and singles both frequent the bar in the evening, providing a friendly and casual atmosphere.

Mermaid is located on The Strand, where a couple could easily walk a few steps to leave the bar for the beach and watch a sunset glow over ocean waves. 

The runner-up for best date venue was The Bottle Inn restaurant on 22nd Street.
