L.A. County Lifeguards Win USLA National Lifeguard Championships

The competition was held in Hermosa Beach this past weekend.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — The Olympic Games aren't the only athletic competition this past weekend. The United States Lifesaving Association's National Lifeguard Championships was held in Hermosa Beach for the first time, and the Los Angeles County lifeguards took advantage of home beach advantage and took home another national title.

The last time the competition was held in Southern California was in 2013 when it was held in Manhattan Beach.

Annual competition showcases the lifesaving techniques used daily by lifeguards. The L.A. County Surf Life Saving Association was the champ with 1,462.125 points, more than 300 points over its closest competition, the California State Lifeguard Association.
