Sheriff: Steps to Report Drunk Driver
If you ever see a suspected drunk driver on the road, the county Sheriff's Department recommends to stay away, take note of the car, and call 911.

During holiday weekends, including , there are typically more cases of suspected drunk driving, according to county officials.
Sometimes when motorists witness a drunk driver weaving in and out of lanes or driving down the wrong side of the road, they don’t know what to do.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department listed Sunday these steps to take when a suspected drunk driver is spotted:

- Stay as far away from the vehicle as possible.
- Do not try to pass the vehicle or signal the driver to pull over. Doing so could result in a collision.
- Take notice of the license plate number of the driver's vehicle along with details of the vehicle (such as make, model and color.) But be careful not to compromise your own safety when trying to record this information.
- Finally, pull over and call 911. Give the location of the suspected driver's vehicle, including the name of the road or cross streets and the direction the vehicle is traveling. Give the details of the vehicle and the manner in which the vehicle is being driven.
Just last year, Hermosa Beach police arrested 243 drivers suspected of driving under the influence, according to the department's 10-year report.
