The surf season and health of the local beach made headlines this week on Patch.

Irons Legacy

The release of pro surfer Andy Irons autopsy results were delayed this week. The surfing champion unexpectedly died in November, and with his death continuing to make headlines, Patch columnist Tori MacLennan questioned Monday .

Surf Series

The South Bay Boardriders Club capped off its five-event surf series this week. was held at on Pier Plaza. Local wave riders of all skill levels competed in the surf contests. 

Paddling for Granny

A paddle-out ceremony for June 25 in Hermosa Beach in memory of surf photographer Leroy “Granny” Grannis. He died in February of natural causes at age 93.

Beach Grade

Heal the Bay Wednesday. The environmental group grades beaches based on cleanliness. Hermosa Beach was given an A-plus grade.

Paddleboard Race 

Paddleboarders flocked to Hermosa Beach on Friday for Hennessey's . The contest required competitors to battle a 3.5-mile stretch of waves from the Hermosa Beach Pier to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back.
