GARCETTI MEETS WITH HISTORIC FILIPINOTOWN NEIGHBORS
Los Angeles City Councilmember Eric Garcetti met with members of the Historic Filipinotown community at a neighborhood coffee to discuss issues of concern to local stakeholders.
"Our neighborhoods are better when everyone has an opportunity to provide input," said Councilmember Garcetti.
Issues raised by participants included recycling centers, homelessness, and the use of the former LAPD Rampart station, which is being renovated into an LAPD Metro Division station with a public service counter to assist local residents.

GARCETTI CONGRATULATES "WOMAN OF THE YEAR" SANDRA FIGUEROA-VILLA
Los Angeles City Councilmember Eric Garcetti hailed the selection of Sandra Figueroa-Villa as Los Angeles County's First District 2012 "Woman of the Year." L.A. County Supervisor Gloria Molina said she chose Figueroa-Villa in recognition of her more than 30 years of fighting for social justice and being a "beacon of hope for generations of families."

Figueroa-Villa is the CEO of El Centro del Pueblo, which provides job training, gang intervention and prevention programs, substance abuse counseling, and more to the Echo Park community.
"Sandra has dedicated so much of her time and energy to making Los Angeles a place of opportunity for families of all backgrounds. I've enjoyed working with her throughout the years, and it's great to see her recognized for her years of service to our community," said Councilmember Eric Garcetti.
Figueroa-Villa was born and raised in South Los Angeles and currently lives in Eagle Rock. She recently served as Councilmember Garcetti's appointee to the LAUSD Redistricting Commission.

- On Saturday, March 24, volunteers are needed to assist with installations of community gardens at Clifford and Elysian Heights Elementary Schools. The Greater Echo Park Elysian Neighborhood Council is leading these projects with a beautification grant from Councilmember Garcetti. Clifford Elementary (2150 Duane St) needs volunteers from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. RSVP to Principal Armineh Alexan at apapazia@lausd.net. Elysian Heights Elementary (1562 Baxter St) needs volunteers from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. RSVP to Principal Veronica Herrera at veronica.herrera@lausd.net.
