Toothsome Chocolate Emporium Opens At Universal CityWalk

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA — The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen, a full-service restaurant with steampunk flair, tantalizing desserts and in-character, culinary ambassadors, has opened at Universal CityWalk, moving into the former Hard Rock Cafe space, which closed in 2020.

The 19th century-themed eatery serves brunch, lunch and dinner, with such chef-curated dishes as avocado bruschetta, truffle fries, banana Foster waffles, chocolate brioche s’mores French toast, Toothsome Niçoise, Croque Monsieur, Tour de France burgers, plus sandwiches, salads, soups and a slew of sweets.

And, oh, the sweets! Prepare for confectionary delights including an array of specialty milkshakes (like the Red Velvet, Key Lime Pie, Pineapple Upside Down and That's Mint), cakes, custards, cream pies, brulees and such sundaes as the Birthday Cake, Banana Cream Pie and Chocolate Brownie Bark.

A dessert foundry offers grab-n-go milkshakes, while the "Candy Smith" sells treats, including 30 different flavors of macarons, truffles, apparel and collectibles.

Also on the menu are kids' offerings, vegan dishes and, for those 21 and up, such hand-crafted libations as a chocolate Old Fashioned, Spresso ‘tini and a Cacao Nut Margarita.

Toothsome diners are hosted by "Penelope" and her trusty robot "Jacques" — steampunk ambassadors, who deliver a world-traveler take on the restaurant's culinary selections.

And Toothsome's atmosphere draws from that Victorian-era with a chocolate emporium vibe, decked out with a collection of Penelope’s archives of chocolate research, gadgetry and inventions, L.A.-based artisans’ airship paintings and an exterior façade featuring a clockwork marquee and towering 97-foot smokestacks.
