Water Main Rupture Sends Water Rushing onto Hollywood Streets

A water main ruptured at Highland Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood today.

The 12-inch main broke about 4 p.m. and water gushed, closing the intersection to traffic.

Department of Water and Power crews took at least two hours to close the main. Work to repair the damage is expected to cause closure of the intersection until early Tuesday.

A department spokesman promised the intersection would be reopened by tomorrow’s rush hour.

One nearby business was closed because of the lack of water.
