HOLLYWOOD, CA — November kicks off the year-end rush of prestige dramas and blockbuster originals, serving up a potent mix of awards-season hopefuls, literary adaptations, high-stakes thrillers and long-awaited franchise returns.

Igniting the Academy Award conversation this month is Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” premiering Nov. 7. This brooding reimagining of Mary Shelley’s gothic classic stars Oscar Isaac as the obsessive scientist whose quest to conquer death unleashes a tormented creation, called Creature (Jacob Elordi). With haunting visuals, emotional depth and a cast that also includes Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz, del Toro’s adaptation is already drawing acclaim as one of Netflix’s most ambitious fall releases.

Equally unmissable is “Stranger Things” Season 5 – Volume 1, arriving Nov. 26. The penultimate season of the cultural juggernaut reunites the Hawkins crew for their most perilous battle yet as the Upside Down begins to bleed into reality. Expect emotional reunions, epic confrontations and the beginning of the end for one of Netflix’s most beloved series.

Premiering Nov. 6, “Death By Lightning” dramatizes the shocking true story of President James Garfield’s assassination. Michael Shannon stars as Garfield, with Matthew Macfadyen as his delusional assassin, Charles Guiteau. Based on Candice Millard’s acclaimed book “Destiny of the Republic,” this limited series explores the chaos, politics and medical missteps that followed one of America’s most tragic presidential deaths.

On Nov. 13, “The Beast in Me” brings a chilling psychological thriller to the screen. Claire Danes stars as a grieving writer who suspects her enigmatic neighbor (Matthew Rhys) may be a murderer. As suspicion spirals into obsession, the line between predator and prey begins to blur in this eight-part limited series from creator Gabe Rotter.

For fans of stylish French dramas, “Nouvelle Vague” — director Richard Linklater's love letter to the French New Wave — arrives Nov. 14. Blending romance, rebellion and retro aesthetics, the film is a fictionalized retelling of the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s groundbreaking film “Breathless.”

Also joining the slate on Nov. 21 is the Oscar-buzzed “Train Dreams,” a lyrical adaptation of Denis Johnson’s novella. Set against the vast landscapes of early 20th-century America, it follows a railroad laborer, played by Joel Edgerton, whose quiet life is shaped by loss, memory and the changing frontier — a meditative portrait of solitude and survival.

Finally, popular movie favorites also abound, including “Happy Christmas,” “Elvis,” “Just Mercy,” “Moulin Rouge!” and the entire “Back to the Future” movie series collection.
