Would-Be Armed Robber Suffers Smackdown By Retired Wrestler: Report
"He didn't know that the guy was a retired wrestler," one witness told KTLA.
An attempted armed robbery in West Hollywood was foiled this week when the would-be victim used his skills as a retired wrestler to defend himself, according to a report.
The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. Wednesday on the 900 block of North Sweetzer Avenue, when a man driving fast down the street suddenly stopped his vehicle, KTLA reported.
The masked man got out pointed a handgun at the wrestler and his girlfriend, who were walking down the street. He demanded the man's Rolex watch, according to the report.

When the victim โ who asked KTLA not to be identified โ declined to give up his watch, he and the robber began to fight, the station reported.
"He didnโt know that the guy was a retired wrestler,โ witness Patrick McCloskey told KTLA. โSo, he was able to get the gun off the guy and wrestle him down.โ

KTLA aired footage of the incident, which shows the man telling a deputy that he took the gunman's wrist and forced him to the ground before taking the gun away. The man's girlfriend threw the gun over a nearby fence and the wrestler held the suspect down until law enforcement arrived.
