Young Man Killed In 101 Pile-Up Identified

HOLLYWOOD, CA — The coroner's office has released the name of a 20- year-old motorist killed Saturday when his hydroplaned car crashed into a concrete divider ejecting him and triggering a six-vehicle crash on the Hollywood (101) Freeway in Hollywood.

He was Carlos Queveda Jr. of South El Monte, the coroner's office said.

The crash on the northbound freeway, north of Barham Boulevard, was about 5:10 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.

Officials said Queveda was driving a 2000 Acura sedan at an unknown speed in the No. 3 lane, which became slick due to rain throughout the evening and had light drizzle at the time of the crash.

Queveda lost control of the car, which smashed into the concrete center median. He was ejected from the car upon impact and landed within the center median of the southbound lanes.

Queveda was pronounced dead about 5:15 p.m., when emergency crews responded to the scene near Barham Boulevard, Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Three people were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Stewart said.

The ages and genders of those victims were not released.

A Sigalert closing the north 1-through-5 lanes and the south 1 lane, was issued at 5:45 a.m. and canceled at 9 a.m.
