  1. Last week on Thursday, a 20-year-old HB resident was arrested by the Fountain Valley PD “in connection with an ongoing investigation tracking a drug ring in Orange County.” After executing a search warrant, officers “found (him) to have allegedly been in possession of illegal narcotics — including counterfeit pills — and firearms. The narcotics included about 10,400 “Xanax” and 840 “Percocet” pills, as well as 3.5 ounces of psilocybin, ecstasy pills and Adderall. The recovered narcotics have a street value that exceeds $75,000.” They also found a ghost gun. The suspect “posted bond and was released on April 15.” (Parent Security Online)
  2. Does the HBPD have “assault rifles, flashbangs, aerial drones, and specialty shotgun rounds?” Governor Gavin Newsom wants you to have this information, and the city has until May 1 to “publicly list all the military grade equipment and weapons they own, as well as ask for permission from their city council members a month in advance before buying more.” (Voice of OC)
  3. Our public schools got good grades! We learned on Thursday that Huntington Beach Union High School District came in with a letter grade A with the “highest scores for academics, teaching and diversity. Lowest for clubs and activities.” Huntington Beach City School District earned a B+ with “highest scores for teaching. Lowest for clubs and activities.” The Ocean View School District also scored a B+ with “highest score for diversity. Lowest for clubs and activities.” (OC Tribute)
  4. A 67-year-old Newport Beach resident “pleaded guilty in December to his involvement in the Operation Varsity Blues college admissions scandal and was sentenced Wednesday to nine weeks in prison.” Besides that, he will have to pay a $75,000 fine, “serve one year of supervised release after finishing his prison sentence, and perform 100 hours of community service.” (Patch)
  5. The HBPD has announced that it will conduct a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the City Saturday. It will run from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. “During the checkpoint, officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.” (HB News)
