- On Thursday, there was a shooting on the 10000 block of Constitution. “The Pegasus School and Isojiro Oka Elementary School were placed on temporary lockdown.” The HBPD detained two individuals. (KTLA)
- Have you noticed a yellow buoy with the lettering “Shark Lab” in the ocean? We learned last week that it is part of CSU Long Beach’s shark lab attempt at tracking white sharks and keeping beachgoers safe. “Anytime a tagged shark swims by, they send us a text alert that this shark, this ID number, is by the buoy right now. It’s this big, and it was tagged at this location and this all the places the sharks have been,” Dr. Chris Lowe explained. Other buoys are installed in Carpinteria, Coronado, Del Mar, and Long Beach. - Grocery store workers are taking a strike vote next week. Ralphs and Albertsons have failed to come to an agreement with the unions representing the workers. “Workers at Ralphs are asking for a $5 increase over the next three years — a roughly $1.67 per hour raise annually. Instead, they are being offered $1.80 over three years, an annual 60-cent increase to their hourly pay – an amount workers say doesn’t make a dent in their cost of living needs.” (Voice of OC)
- Last Sunday, Rifle Supply hosted a fundraiser to benefit the family of fallen Huntington Beach Police Officer Nicholas Vella. The business, which is located at 16291 Gothard Street, reported that more than 100 people came by and participated. “The fundraiser featured a Classic Car Show and food.” The business raised $6,000. - On Thursday, the Hebrew Academy in Huntington Beach celebrated Purim. “Wearing costumes ranging from an astronaut to a Dodger – as is a custom during the festive Jewish holiday to represent that some miracles are disguised – the students played with noisemakers, snacked on traditional treats, and listened as Rabbi Peretz Greenwald read the Story of Esther.” (The OCR/paywall)
