The Mar Vista High School ASB is partnering with State Farm Insurance, the Imperial Beach Fire Department, San Diego County Sheriff Department, Imperial Beach Kiwanis, Imperial Beach Optimists Club and Mar Vista Alumni Association to host what they hope will be the most popular in the country, Saturday Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Mar Vista High School.
Dubbed Celebrate My Drive, the event is part of a nationwide competition sponsored by State Farm Insurance to promote driver awareness and safe driving especially among new and teenage drivers. The five schools in the country that host the biggest and most popular events will each receive a $100,000 grant from State Farm. Popularity of the event is being determined both by attendance and by online voting.

Additionally, students between the ages of 15 and 18 can enter to win a new car just for voting starting Sept.10 for Mar Vista’s event at http://celebratemydrive.com.
“We saw this as an excellent opportunity to promote safety amongst our student body while also pursuing much needed funding for our school,” said Mariko Nakawatase who is spearheading the effort on behalf of Mar Vista ASB. “Everyone is really rallying behind this event and we’re confident we’ll have a winner.”
The event will have a variety of fun activities to promote safe driving including golf cart operation while wearing “beer goggles” – supervised by the Sheriff Department, an opportunity to experience what a semi driver can and can’t see, a demonstration by the Imperial Beach Fire Department, food stalls, contests, live music and more.
The community is encouraged to come and participate in this important event and, even more importantly, to vote online to make sure Mar Vista High School gets that much needed prize money.
