Update: Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

Police and sheriff's deputies searched for a bank robbery suspect who claimed to have a bomb and gun Monday afternoon.

Updated 12:25 a.m. Tuesday.

The San Diego Police Department a man at 1280 California St. Monday after he allegedly claimed to have a bomb and gun when robbing a bank, said Officer David Stafford.

A tracking device hidden in stolen money led the police to the address.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the pursuit of the suspect, Lt. Scott Amos said.

SDPD was first called to the scene of the robbery at Navy Federal Credit Union in the 500 block of Saturn Boulevard around 4 p.m, Lt. Andra Brown said.

One resident in the area who did not want to be identified said beginning about 4:30 p.m. roads have been blocked off and police officers have searched the area with assault rifles.

β€œThis is usually a quiet neighborhood,” she said.

Last month Chase Bank on Palm Avenue was robbed by a man who left behind a suspicious device that at one time deputies believed could be a bomb but later found to be harmless.
