Santa Seen on Spooner Board in Imperial Beach

Mr. Kringle was spotted using a Spooner board in IB last week near the home of the board's creator Randy Putland.

Despite a sometimes pudgy exterior, Santa Claus is a man of many talents and hobbies.

Google "extreme sports Santa" and you will find he has a knack for snowboarding, skydiving, rock climbing and more.

Given the speed he needs to cross the planet in a single night, his ability to ride a board should come as no surprise.

Last Saturday Saint Nicholas was seen riding a Spooner board in Imperial Beach down hills and steep sand while lending a hand to WiLDCOAST beach cleanup efforts.

Santa recruited the help of the Mar Vista High School Surf Team for the endeavor.

Sand in Imperial Beach has taken a sharp angle since the SANDAG 2012 Regional Beach Sand Project.

Spooner boards were made by Imperial Beach's own Randy Putland in 2007.

Putland owns Old Town Surf Store and may be better known in IB as a member of the sandcastle team Rando's Commandos.

Earlier this year, the TODAY Show called Spooner boards one of the Top 10 Toys of 2012 made in America.
