Community Center Seeks $10 Donations from Residents
The long-needed new roof cost the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge $85,000. They hope to recoup some of that cost with donations.
After years of discussions and rainy days resistant to tarp-covered spaces, the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge expects to complete its new, $85,000 roof this week.
And the non-profit could use some donations to help offset the cost, Executive Director Deb Jordan said.
“It’s the biggest project the Community Center has ever undertaken,'' Jordan said in a prepared statement.

Construction began on June 3. With hopes of recouping the funds from community members' donations, the center is launching its “Building the Future” building campaign. Community center folks plan to reach out to those who utilize the facility, those who remember the days of the original Youth House, and those who have fond memories of the community center over the years.
The Chevy Chase Drive facility offers approximately 150 classes a week, from ceramics and yoga to dancing and cooking.

“As a community asset, it’s important to think of the longevity of the center for the next generation,” board president Ara Aslanian said in a prepared statement.
The center is asking for $10 or more from families and community members. The donations are tax-deductible and can be mailed or brought to the community center at 4469 Chevy Chase Drive, La Canada, CA 91011.
The center contracted Rey-Crest Roofing and Waterproofing to remove and replace the 12,000-plus square-foot deteriorated roof. It has been replaced with a sleek white pvc roofing membrane that will add decades of longevity to the center, Jordan said. Current Electric and Acuñas Plumbing were tasked with moving and repairing over 50 conduit openings, extensive fire alarm circuitry, old gas lines, and water lines that were flush with the old roof.
