JPL to Host Space Exploration Workshop

The 18th Annual Improving Space Operations Workshop will be held April 24-25 at JPL.

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory will host experts from across the commercial space flight industry April 24-25 to discuss a new wave in commercial space exploration technology.

The 18th Annual Improving Space Operations Workshop will discuss topics such as the use of lunar materials in support of commercial human space activities, exploration enabling technologies, and even the legal aspects of private enterprise in space. The workshop is jointly sponsored by the Space Operations & Support Technical Committee of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and SpaceOps.

Opening remarks by JPL Director Charles Elachi begin at 9 a.m. on April 24. Following him will be John Couluris, senior director for launch and mission operations for SpaceX, the first private company scheduled to dock at the International Space Station. Additional talks include Michael E. Lopez-Alegria, president of the Commercial Space Flight Federation and retired NASA astronaut, and Will Pomerantz, VP of special projects at Virgin Galactic.

The workshop will take place at JPL's Flight Projects Center, 4800 Oak Grove Drive. JPL is located off the Oak Grove Drive exit of the 210 (Foothill) Freeway. Visitor parking is to the left (west) of the JPL main guard gate, across the street from the JPL Visitor Center.
