What Did LCF Look Like 62 Years Ago? (Video)

This video is like a La Cañada time machine. Featured are images and video clips of how the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge changed during the past 62 years -- without changing its mission.

It was a time when orchards, orange groves and vineyards blanketed the city; a time when children played in the street, because they didn't have anywhere else to congregate.

Enter the La Cañada Youth House, now called the. The year: 1949.

This video, like a La Cañada time machine, shows how in its 62 years, the Community Center may have changed aesthetics, but not its mission: to give kids and folks a place to meet, have fun and learn. The historic DVD was created by the Community Center for its 60th anniversary, a couple years back.

Another thing that hasn't changed - the popularity of the ceramics class, as several residents pointed out on the video. Beloved instructor Jean Taylor has been teaching ceramics and pottery for more than 40 years.

And while the video, which may also be viewed on the community center's website, mentions a building addition, spokeswoman Melissa Mills said board members are holding off on any expansion during this down market.
