IRVINE, CA — A driver was found dead inside a vehicle after it crashed into a sign and a right shoulder wall on the California State route 405 Freeway in Irvine, police said Monday.

The crash was reported at 11:33 p.m. Sunday on the southbound 405 Freeway just north of Laguna Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A witness told the CHP at 11:38 p.m. that the driver appeared to be unconscious inside the vehicle.

The Orange County coroner's office was requested to come to the scene at 12:06 a.m. Monday.

The age and gender of the driver was not available.
