High School Tennis Coach, Performing Arts Coordinator, Local Hero

LAGUNA BEACH, CA —When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Walker Reed who nominated Rick Conkey of Laguna Beach. Conkey is Laguna Beach High School's tennis coach, but he is much more than that, according to Reed.

Not only is Conkey a mentor to Laguna Beach High School Tennis Breakers, he's also made a huge impact in performing arts, and is an "all around, man about town!"

Conkey has mad a "huge and meaningful contribution to Laguna Beach and to High
School Students," according to Reed. "He's very cool and fun to be around."
