Kid Designers Wanted For Holiday Palette Project In Laguna Beach
Children ages 5 to 17 are invited to submit holiday-themed palette designs by November 15 for display in the Promenade throughout December.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA—The City of Laguna Beach Arts Commission is seeking original holiday palette designs from children ages 5 to 17. To qualify, the young artists must live or attend a school or art program in Laguna Beach.
Entries submitted by Monday, November 15, 2021, will be in the running to have their design mounted on a wood palette, and displayed throughout December in Santa’s Cottage at the Promenade on Forest.
A total of 12 will be chosen from each of the following age groups: 5-8, 9-13 and 14-17.

Palette designs must be drawn or painted on 8½" x 11” paper, in color, within the border specified by the palette template.

Don't forget to incorporate the thumb hole into the artwork!
For inspiration and help with all the requirements, watch the demonstration video on how to participate, which includes tips on drawing iconic holiday images and decor. There are no restrictions on the subject matter; however, religious symbols are discouraged by the arts commission.
Submissions may be dropped off in person at City Hall, or by emailing the art program coordinator Michael McGregor at mmcgregor@lagunabeachcity.net.
The Laguna Beach Arts Commission will judge the designs based on creativity and theme.
As was the case in 2020, all received entries will be viewable online.
In addition to the display in the Promenade, selected artists will be recognized at the December city council meeting via Zoom.
Here's a recap of the timeline:
- November 15, 2021. Designs must be delivered to the Cultural Arts Department at City Hall, 505 Forest Avenue, or via hi-res image emailed to mmcgregor@lagunabeachcity.net.
- November 22, 2021: The arts commission will review and select designs for the exhibition.
- November 23, 2021: Artists will be notified of selection via email.
- December 1 through December 31, 2021: Exhibition at the Promenade on Forest.
- December 7, 2021: Artist recognition at city council meeting via Zoom at 5:00 p.m.
