Laguna Beach High School to Host Financial Aid Workshop

The workshop will be held Monday, Sept. 26, beginning at 7 p.m.

Laguna Beach High School’s College and Career Center will host a financial aid workshop Monday, Sept. 26 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the LBHS library.

Guest speaker Rob Frias from the College Funding Solutions of California will share details on the importance of filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) properly and important financial data that determines a student’s expected family contributions (EFC).

“Over 75 percent of FAFSA applications filed by families have errors in the data,” said Lynn Gregory, scholarship and financial aid specialist at Laguna Beach High School. “Unfortunately, many students who make these mistakes are not able to access financial aid money when they begin school until these errors are fixed.”

Speakers will review the most common mistakes on FAFSA applications to ensure all students are on track to receive financial aid in a timely manner. The workshop will cover new updates to the FAFSA, such as the ability to submit the application as early as Oct. 1 and use income information from an earlier tax year.

Families will also learn about student loans, repayment information, important strategies for saving money and how their current plans or income may affect gift aid awards.

Gregory recommends families of junior and senior students to attend this workshop to be fully prepared for the financial aid process.
