5 Freeway Reopens In South OC After Freeway Bubbling Reported
The stretch of the freeway through San Clemente will continue to be monitored by Caltrans, officials said.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — The California Highway Patrol reopened several lanes of the I-5 Freeway late Tuesday afternoon, after bubbling — a sign of a potential sinkhole — was reported on the freeway's roadways earlier that morning.
The bubbles were reported in the #1 lane of the freeway traveling north near Avenida Vista Hermosa in San Clemente at around 8:50 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Rafael Reynoso told Patch.

While the bubbles may lead to a sinkhole, Reynoso said CHP quickly blocked off lanes before that could happen. Caltrans crews drilled into the concrete and drained the "raised areas" of the roadway, he told Patch.
The HOV, #1 and #2 lane of the freeway were shut down. The bubbling prompted officials to issue a SigAlert for much of Tuesday morning and afternoon.
