DANA POINT, CA — Opponents of Dana Point's short-term rental program are filing an appeal against its implementation, the Dana Point Times reported.

The Dana Point Planning Commission approved the program on May 9. The program required homeowners to obtain permits to use residences as a short-term rentals, and placed the cap on the number of rentals in the city to 185, the Times reported.

Mark Zanides, one of the residents filing the appeal, told the paper the program "would be terrible for the citizens of Dana Point" by ruining the character of the city's residential neighborhoods and reducing the amount of low-cost housing available in certain areas. He also argued the Planning Commission does not have the authority to regular short-term rentals.
