Crews Battle 4-Acre Brush Fire In Laguna Niguel Tuesday

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — County fire crews were hard at work Tuesday night as they held down a 4-acre brush fire in South Orange County that erupted earlier that afternoon.

The fire was initially reported early Tuesday afternoon and was burning in the area of Niguel Road and Ridgeway in Laguna Niguel. By 8:27 p.m., the Orange County Fire Authority reported that the fire was 80 percent contained.

"Fire crews will remain onsite throughout the night to gain additional containment and to treat any hotspots or flare-ups," the OCFA Tweeted Tuesday night.

Orange County fire crews on scene reported flames burning in heavy brush at around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

No evacuations were ordered, although ports of Beacon Hill and Ridgeway Avenue were closed to make way for fire crews.

"Firefighters are on scene of a vegetation fire near Niguel Road and Ridgeway in @LagunaNiguelCty," the OCSD Tweeted. "Aggressive work in progress by firefighters on the ground and in the air."

"If you are home in the affected area, please remain in your home to keep the streets clear to allow for safe work by our many units on the roadways in the neighborhood," the OCFA Tweeted.

At around 2:40 p.m., the City of Laguna Niguel reported that its Care and Reception Shelter is currently open at Crown Valley Community Center, 29751 Crown Valley Pkwy.
