13-Year-Old Boy Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash In Dana Point; Driver Arrested: Police

The crash was reported at around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in the City of Dana Point.

DANA POINT, CA — A fatal crash involving a 13-year-old boy shut down a busy Dana Point intersection Tuesday, authorities said.

The crash was reported at the intersection of Dana Point Harbor Drive and Park Lantern at around 8:45 a.m., according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Upon arrival, police found a downed pedestrian who was only identified as a 13-year-old boy.

"Deputies located the juvenile victim with pretty severe injuries," OCSD Sgt. Lizbeth Gwisdalla said.

The driver of the vehicle fled, but witnesses helped deputies to identify and locate the driver about two or three miles away from the crash scene, the sergeant said.

"Unfortunately, the 13-year-old boy was pronounced dead (at a) hospital," Gwisdalla said.

The suspect was detained for further investigation. Their identity was not released.

The crash prompted authorities to shut down the intersection while they conduct an investigation.

Residents were asked to avoid the area.
