DANA POINT, CA — A new work of art is gracing south Orange County waters, after Dana Wharf Whale Watching announced its latest collaboration with world-renowned marine artist Robert Wyland: an original work of art adorning the hull of the "Ocean Adventures" catamaran.

The collaboration, born from a longstanding relationship with Wyland spanning 15 years, showcases an original piece painted by Wyland and applied to the vessel's hull while it was at dry dock.

The artwork depicts a pod of humpback whales swimming alongside bottlenose dolphin — a sight that travelers aboard Dana Wharf vessels frequently enjoy, Dana Wharf Co-Owner Donna Kalez said.

Wyland told Patch that his longstanding relationship with Dana Wharf is motivated by the importance of protecting the ocean.

"I've always believed the best way to inspire people to protect the ocean is to surround them with its beauty," he said. "That's why working with Dana Wharf is so meaningful to me — we share that same passion for bringing people closer to the sea."

Wyland said the whales he painted for the "Ocean Adventures" vessel represent family, connection and the promise that "what we love, we protect."

Residents were invited to view the boat and artwork from the railing above Dock 6 at 34675 Golden Lantern any day of the week.
