Developer Eyes Building At 1998 Laguna Niguel Landslide Site: Report
A land developer wants to build condominiums at the base of a hill that was the site of a landslide that destroyed several homes in 1998.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — A land developer is hoping to build condominiums in Laguna Niguel at the site of a landslide that destroyed several homes in 1998, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Barry Hon, a developer for Laguna Niguel Properties LLC, wants to build new condominiums at the base of a hill below Via Estoril, the Times reported.
The landslide happened after heavy rains damaged the hillside and sent several homes on Via Estoril crashing into the condominiums below, the Times reported. Hon was the developer behind the homes and condominiums involved in the landslide.

Supporters of the project argued safety improvements made since the 1998 incident will help prevent another landslide from happening, the Times reported. Opponents believe new construction could further degrade the hillside and send homes crashing down.
