LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — Laguna Niguel and Dana Point residents can pick up some free comics this Saturday at Nuclear Comics as part of Free Comic Book Day.
More than 2,000 stores around the country take part in Free Comic Book Day. The promotion began as a way to attract new readers to independent comic shops around the United States.
Nuclear Comics has been open since 1994 and carries a large collection of graphic novels and back issues of comic book series, the store's website said.

Free Comic Book Day is now in its 20th year and is typically held on the first Saturday in May. This year's Free Comic Book Day coincides with the release of "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" from Marvel Studios.
Around 50 comics made for Free Comic Book Day will be available on Saturday, and a list of the comics is available online.

The free comics feature characters such as Spider-Man, X-Men, and the Avengers from Marvel, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from IDW Publishing.
