Full Closures On 5 Freeway Scheduled Over Weekend In South OC

Caltrans construction work is scheduled along the Interstate 5 freeway this weekend. Here's what to know in south Orange County.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — Starting Friday, Orange County Transportation Authority and Caltrans crews will continue scheduled work on the Interstate 5 freeway, with closures affecting various on-ramps and off-ramps in South Orange County.

Here's what to know about the upcoming weekend closures:

  • Crown Valley Parkway, in Mission Viejo, will have full closures on the northbound 5 freeway off-ramp and northbound loop on-ramp from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31.
    • In addition, there will be a lane reduction on eastbound Crown Valley Parkway as crews pave the northbound off-ramp and loop on-ramp.
  • Oso Parkway, in Laguna Hills, will have both southbound and northbound on-ramp and off-ramp closures from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 until 5 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.
    • Motorists will be detoured to Avery Parkway or La Paz Road, Caltrans said.

Residents should plan for additional travel time through the area, Caltrans said.

According to the agency, the closures are a part of the ongoing Interstate 5 freeway widening project, a $580 million project that is expected to be completed sometime in early 2025.
