Students Get Visit from Kenya School Officials

Kids at George White Elementary School in Laguna Niguel had the chance meet a school principal and former student from a small village in Kenya.

Students at George White Elementary School in Laguna Niguel had a rare treat Thursday morning in the form of some visitors from Kenya.

Not only did they have the chance meet a school principal and former student from a small village in Kenya, they also interacted with them, according to the school officials.

The event was part of a cultural and educational exchange coordinated by Kids in Community Service, part of the school’s PTA, and Kenya Keys, a volunteer organization designed to provide educational opportunities to rural Kenyans.

On hand was Joseph Mwengea, a school principal and co-founder of Kenya Keys, and Emmanuel Mwengi, a pharmacist who was one of the first students sponsored by the organization.

The groups is on a five-week visit to the United States and plans to visit schools in Oregon, California, and Utah during their trip.

At George White, Mwengea and Mwengi were part of the morning flag salute, visited classrooms, and participated in a round-table discussion with fourth and fifth graders.
