GFWC National Day Of ServiceTaking Place Nationwide
Laguna Niguel Woman's Club is one of Orange County GFWC Clubs Participating to End Hunger and Food Insecurity Across the U.S.
Laguna Niguel, CA, September 19, 2024 — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Laguna Niguel Woman’s Club is pleased to announce the kickoff of the inaugural National Day of Service (NDS), spotlighting food insecurity and hunger in the United States. This year’s NDS is scheduled for Saturday, September 28, nationwide. GFWC clubs nationwide are participating to help increase public awareness and to provide food resources to residents/ families in their communities.
“The GFWC National Day of Service is an exciting opportunity for our clubwomen to demonstrate their volunteer know-how,” said Suellen Brazil, International President. “The GFWC tagline is ‘Living the Volunteer Spirit!’ which is the essence of this national public awareness campaign about hunger and food insecurity. It takes a village of concerned community leaders, public servants, and compassionate neighbors to solve hunger.”
On 9/17/24, Honorable Mayor Kelly Jennings and City Council presented the Laguna Niguel Woman’s Club members with a proclamation highlighting September, 28th as National Day of Service to end hunger. Additionally, Mayor Jennings, recognized the Laguna Niguel Woman’s Club as the Laguna Niguel Cares designation for the month of September.
Laguna Niguel Cares is a community driven initiative spotlighting local organizations and volunteer groups that make a positive impact on the lives of others in the community. The Laguna Niguel Woman’s Club was selected for their ongoing service and dedication to a variety of charities and social endeavors that benefit the Laguna Niguel community
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 34 million people in the U.S. are food insecure, 9 million children are hungry, 53 million people turned to food banks following
COVID-19 due to unemployment, and 100 percent of U.S. counties have families suffering from food insecurity.
“These statistics are staggering, said Theresa Mays, GFWC, Laguna Niguel Woman’s Club President. “GFWC Clubwomen work tirelessly to be of service to their local communities. Hunger and food insecurity represents an issue that if everyone works together, no one in the United States need to suffer.” We are collecting canned goods for Family Assistance Ministries, (FAM) who works tirelessly to assist people in need in South Orange County with food and shelter”.
Stop by on Saturday September 28, 2024, at the Laguna Niguel Presbyterian Church, located at 30071 Ivy Glenn Drive, and drop off canned goods at our drive through between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) is a unifying force, bringing
together local women’s clubs, with members dedicated to strengthening their
communities and enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. With more
than 60,000 members in affiliated clubs in every state and more than 20 countries,
GFWC members are community leaders who work locally to create global change by
advocating for women, children, and families on issue such as domestic violence and
sexual assault, food insecurity and hunger, and promoting healthy lifestyles. GFWC also
support the arts, works to preserve natural resources, advances education, encourages
civic involvement and works toward world peace and understanding.
