LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — City officials gave the green light recently to the Laguna Niguel City Center project, which would bring apartments, a new library and retail spaces to act as a downtown area for the community, The Orange County Register reported.

The project will take over a 25-acre spot near Crown Valley and Alicia parkways, which currently features parking lots, a maintenance yard for the county, the long-shuttered South County Justice Center and an aging library, the Register reported.

Councilman Fred Minagar said Laguna Niguel has never had a downtown area, and the project will help "beautify the scar we have there," according to the Register.
