OC High School Coach Groomed Teen Girl, Carried On Relationship: OCSD

DANA POINT, CA — A south Orange County basketball coach was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a teenage girl.

Michael Joseph Duran, 44, of Aliso Viejo, was accused of having a sexual relationship with the victim dating back to last year, according to authorities.

Deputies were "contacted by a mandated reporter" this month about an "inappropriate relationship" between Duran and the victim, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

The Dana Hills High School basketball coach apparently groomed the victim while he was an assistant basketball coach at the high school, the victim told authorities.

Duran also coaches a basketball club in San Juan Capistrano known as SOCAL FINS, so investigators are concerned there may be more alleged victims, officials said.
